Upcoming Events in Cork this Summer

With over 50,000 people expected to attend, The Cork Midsummer Festival is an Explosion of Arts Events on the Banks of the Lee and is running from the 16 -25th of June with a full programme of events throughout the festival. Returning favourites such as Our Table which will take place on June 18th where you can join up to 400 other food lovers on a summer’s evening with food and entertainment on Oliver Plunkett Street ( winner of the Great Street Award 2016 in Ireland & UK) with 12 participating restaurants from around Cork and Picnic in the Park which takes place on June 18 that the wonderful Fitzgerald’s Park (home of Diarmuid Gavin's Chelsea Flower Show gold-meal winning Sky Garden).  Corcadorca Theatre Company presents their new spectacular production Far Away by Caryl Churchill it takes place the 16th of June to the 1st of July. The performance of Far Away will be set in a unique location on Spike Island. You can enjoy the performance with the impressive military backdrop of Fort Mitchell. One of the most unique events and new addition to this year’s festival is A Print Symposium at Millennium Hall,City Hall, Cork. The event explores Printmaking as an expanded practice in contemporary visual culture. International speakers will also be present to speak at the event. Print Symposium will be held on the 23rd to the 24th of June.

ProdiJIG return to Cork Opera House after taking the city by storm last summer. This ground breaking dance show which redefines Irish Dance for the next generation will run from June 14th-June 25th.The group, which is led by Cork born World Champion Irish dancer Alan Kenefick, features 14 of the best modern Irish dancers in the world. ProdiJIG: TheRevolution celebrates the spirit of creativity and freedom through themes of riot and revolution. The show will take place each evening at 8pm with Matinees at 2.30pm on Saturday & Sunday. Tickets are available from €20.00. Cork Opera House are also presenting Annie from 20th July to 20th August. This high energy Cork Opera House made production of the 40 year old Broadway classic will melt your heart and is filled with larger than life characters. The Everyman Theatre is a beautiful Victorian theatre located on MacCurtain Street and is one of Ireland’s leading presenting and producing theatres which is steeped is history and is very popular with audiences and performers alike for its intimacy and atmosphere. The award-winning play Futureproof is running from 16th-24th June and for something a little more traditional, Dancing at Lughnasa, a masterpiece by Brian Friel is running from 2nd-26th August. Midleton Food & Drink Festival takes place on 3rd-10th September. This festival epitomizes the new food culture that has developed in Midleton, combined with a truly remarkable extravaganza of fun. Set in the undulating and bountiful countryside of East Cork, Midleton has become southern Ireland’s hub of culinary excellence. With a long held and world-renowned reputation for whiskey making traditions and more recently, its fine Farmers Market, Midleton is a perfect setting for a magnificent Food and Drink Festival.
