The Malton Killarney is the best four-star hotel in Ireland as the hotel wins top award at the prestigious 2017 Gold Medal Awards
Soon to be renamed as the Great Southern Killarney, our colleagues at our sister property, The Malton Killarney, are celebrating recognition as Ireland’s Best Four Star Hotel at prestigious annual Gold Medal Awards. The awards were held at the Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny are organised in association with Hotel & Catering Review Magazine and saw some of the finest hospitality businesses in Ireland represented and competing for top spots. The awards which are now in their 29th year, are considered the leading independent awards for the Irish hospitality industry. An extensive renovation programme has been completed at The Malton over the past two years since the Scally Family acquired the hotel and this is a fantastic recognition of the hard work that has been carried out. The timing of this news is especially positive as we recently announced our intention to retire The Malton brand in favour of this iconic hotel’s famous historic name, Great Southern Killarney.

"Iconic Killarney hotel will once again be know as Great Southern Killarney"
We are delighted to announce that our sister property will be know as Great Southern Killarney again following a major refurbishment programme in early 2018 and The Malton badge will be retired. Our proprietors, The Scally Family, undertook ownership of the hotel in 2014 and have since completed many refurbishments and renovations throughout the hotel. As part of this restoration project, The Grand Foyer has been restored to the original Victorian design, all public areas have been redecorated and an extensive bedroom refurbishment program has been undertaken. On the 26th January 2018, the hotel will reopen its doors as the Great Southern Killarney. We believe that restoring this iconic name is an essential element of the identity of this historic property which will be recognised, past and future, as Killarney's Premier Historic Hotel. Due to the rich legacy of the Great Southern name, and the fact that a great many guests and local people continuously refer to the hotel as the Great Southern, the decision was made to restore the name and we greatly look forward to opening a very positive and new chapter in the history of the great hotel.
