The Sunday Spin

In my opinion there are few things nicer than 'The Sunday Spin'. Perhaps it's biggest fan, I think there is nothing better than enjoying a few hours relaxed excursion before the busy week begins in earnest once again on Monday morning. The great thing about living in Cork is that you are never more than 15 minutes (in any direction!) from beautiful countryside, stunning beaches, and pretty little towns & villages. Here are a few of the traditional favourite destinations for a Sunday afternoon;

Blarney Castle

Renowned worldwide, Blarney Castle is a popular spot for tourists, and well worth the visit if you have never been. The castle itself is very impressive, and of course you can opt to kiss the famed Blarney Stone, however this is just the star attraction - don't forget to take time to stroll the the beautiful manicured gardens surrounding the castle.

Kinsale

This pretty harbour town is only 30 mins drive from Cork city, and offers visitors rolling landscapes, unique art & crafts shops, water activities, and (perhaps most importantly!) a wealth of restaurants serving delicious fare. Good luck trying to choose where to enjoy lunch!

Cobh

This island is again only 30 mins drive from Cork city, and is a must visit for anyone interested in history - the town is steeped in it. The heritage centre tells the stories of the famine, Titanic & Lusitania, and you can walk through the town on the Titanic Trail and see the sprawling harbour from the dizzying heights of the towns steep hills.

This weekend, the Independence of The Seas will be docking in Cobh on Sunday. One of the biggest cruise liners in the world, a suitable frenzied excitement surrounds the town when she comes to dock several times a year. This Sunday, why not visit Cobh and enjoy the street based activities that Cobh Chamber organise to coincide with the cruise ships docking - it's bound to be a fun day out for all the family.

So whatever you decide to do this weekend, be sure to enjoy it.
