The last three days saw the long awaited Clipper Festival play out on Albert Quay in Cork City. The yachts sailed into the harbour at 5p.m. Wednesday Evening, and majestically stood overlooking the race festival until their departure this afternoon.
Cork City council did a great job of creating an exciting and diverse race village with market stalls, food vendors, fairground and of course the live entertainment, which was simply superb. Unfortunately, the one thing out of their control was the weather, and unfortunately after weeks of lovely sunshine and heat, the last two days have seen continuous rainfall and grey skies.
But, great respect is due to the people of Cork, who did not let the weather dampen their spirits in any way. Although perhaps we would have seen a larger crowd had the sun made an appearance, the people who did show up to support the event seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Working at the Hayfield Manor stand, with people calling to sample our delicious brownies, if was great to look out and see people adorned in wellies & raincoats, while still happily tucking into an ice-cream! You can always depend on the Irish to make the most of any situation (or rainfall!)
The Irish Summer, unpredictable to the end. The Irish People, thankfully not.
Finally, a quick word of thank you and congratulations to my fellow colleagues at Hayfield Manor, we are delighted to see the hotel is sitting proudly in the number one position on Trip Advisor, thanks in full to the wonderful service they unfailingly deliver everyday.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
