Summer Season in Cork City

The city and county of Cork is set to play host to a multitude of events and festivals this coming summer season. The city will be buzzing with a vast range of music, gastro, literary and sporting events for all the family to enjoy. A plethora of activities awaits you over the coming months which we have outlined below.

Kicking off the summer is the Cork Harbour Festival which takes place between June 3rd and 11th. This festival is a celebration of Ireland’s unique maritime culture with many events taking place over the June Bank Holiday weekend including the Cork Harbour Open Day, Boats and Bites features the very best of Irish Seafood and The Ocean to City- An Rás Mór which is the main rowing spectacle and flagship event. Centre stage of the summer season in Cork will be the annual Live at the Marque which takes place over multiple days in June & July, with an impressive line-up of international artists headlined to play. Kicking off the first of many famous acts will be Picture This, performing hits from their number one album. This will be followed by the legendary Cliff Richard, to celebrate the release of his new album Just Fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll. Cliff will perform renditions of tracks such as Roll Over Beethoven and Great Balls of Fire. There will also be performances from Al Porter, Elton John, Gavin James, Walking On Cars and many more. The Cork Midsummer Festival is an Explosion of Arts Events on the Banks of the Lee and is running from the 16 -25th of June with a full programme of events throughout the festival. 

Corcadorca Theatre Company presents their new spectacular production Far Away by Caryl Churchill it takes place the 16th of June to the 1st of July. The performance of Far Away will be set in a unique location on Spike Island. You can enjoy the performance with the impressive military backdrop of Fort Mitchell.

The Catch8 workshop is a new initiative by Attic projects which will take place in Firkin Crane from the 17 -24th of June. The workshop invites professional dancers from all over the world to Cork for an intimate dance workshop. The eight day event includes training, creativity and sharing, the workshop is an exciting opportunities for the Irish dance community to learn and develop new skill from the international dancers. The workshop will also perform Irish dance to the international dancers.

One of the most unique events and new addition to this year’s festival is A Print Symposium at Millennium Hall, City Hall, Cork. The event explores Printmaking as an expanded practice in contemporary visual culture. International speakers will also be present to speak at the event. Print Symposium will be held on the 23rd to the 24th of June.

These are just a few amazing events which will take place amongst many, many more! Don't miss the huge celebration in Shandon Street Festival in Cork on Saturday the 24th of June. Shandon Street will be decorated by the local community. The Street is one of the most historical places in Cork bursting with Irish charm. The festival is the perfect family event, face-painting, clowns and performances from local bands add to the atmosphere. Food lovers can relax and sample some tasty snacks from the food fair.

Fitzgeralds Park much loved summer festival will take place in July 15th and 16th. The two day event will be packed with entertainment. This event will sees international street performers gather to Cork to showcase their talent. The award winning street performers will have the crowds entertained with jugglers, break dancers and mysterious magicians. Kid’s will be entertained in the kids court. The Judge will be trying, sentencing and punishing parents at the Kid's Court. This is where the kids rule the turf. The festival will also feature food from Just Eat. Relax in the sun and be served by Just Eat waiters where you can enjoy over 15 cuisines from around the world. Enjoy O'Eggs Fun On The Farm where your children get the opportunity to have hands-on fun playing with immersive farm toys. From loading up trailers, trying out diggers and scooping up with tractors in the sand pit, to maneuvering around a cool life-like model farm display.
